Songs Of Greenwich Village
A performance lecture with Rod MacDonald
Monday, July 1   6:00-7:00 pm
Sisters Library
110 N Cedar St, Sisters, OR 97759

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: New York City’s Greenwich Village has produced some of the greatest songs and artists in folk and popular music. Think Woody Guthrie, the Weavers, Pete Seeger, Peter Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Judy Collins, to name a few. From the 1970s to the mid-90s, Rod MacDonald was there, as fictionalized in his 2014 novel “The Open Mike,” headlining clubs and co-founding the Greenwich Village Folk Festival. He’s worked with iconic legends and his own contemporaries in one of the most vibrant communities in music history, and will share the music and stories of this historic neighborhood, as told in its songs.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Rod MacDonald has 21 songs in the Smithsonian Folkways collection and 14 solo albums, including 2023’s Rants And Romance, top ten on national folk music charts. He performs in festivals, concerts, and clubs throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. Now living in south Florida, he’s been named Best Local Acoustic Artist and one of “Ten Greatest South Florida Folksingers Of All Time” (New Times) and one of “10 Magnificent Musicians of Palm Beach County” (The Palm Beach Post). He is also Music Americana instructor in the Osher/Florida Atlantic U. Lifelong Learning program, the nation’s largest LLS program, where he was named Distinguished Faculty Member in 2012.
